Matthew Wild is a director and arts manager, whose productions of operas and musicals have won acclaim in South Africa, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Sweden. After completing studies in Drama and English at UCT, Matthew rapidly established a reputation as one of the SA’s most exciting new theatre-makers. After directing a number of operas in Cape Town, he came to national attention with a series of smash-hit musicals for the Fugard Theatre, including The Rocky Horror Show, West Side Story and Kinky Boots.
From 2015 – 2019 he was Artistic Director of Cape Town Opera, leading the company successfully through six innovative seasons on home soil, and countless touring appearances on major stages in Europe, South America and Asia. Forthcoming productions will take him to Konzert und Theater St Gallen, and to Oper Frankfurt.
